About Echo Bird
Echo Bird is an Americana/indie-folk band split between San Diego, Simi Valley, and Los Angeles. The band features Bryan Sua (lead vocals, guitar), Levi Larkin (guitar, multi-instrumentalist, backing vocals), Michael Villaclara (guitar, backing vocals), Wyatt Whaley (drums), Rob Paterson (bass), and recently added keyboardist Thaddeus Thacker.
The band’s story started in an unlikely place—a fire department leadership academy in Los Angeles. During a presentation, Levi mentioned his love for Tom Petty and playing in bands. Afterward, Bryan tracked him down to talk music, and the two quickly realized they shared the same influences and passion for songwriting. Living hours apart—Levi in Carlsbad and Bryan in Simi Valley—they began building songs remotely, trading demos and ideas back and forth much like The Postal Service once did.
As the songs grew, so did the vision for a full band. Levi remembered his longtime friend Michael Villaclara, who lived near what Levi thought was Bryan’s neighborhood in Sherman Oaks. After Michael auditioned, he was immediately brought into the fold—only later realizing that Simi Valley and Studio City weren’t exactly next door to each other. Still, the chemistry was undeniable.
The lineup continued to grow naturally. Bryan brought in his brother-in-law Wyatt Whaley on drums, and when it came time to record their debut album, Levi recruited his neighbor Rob Paterson, a seasoned bassist who immediately connected with the songs. The band gathered for one full rehearsal, and the connection between everyone was instant. Echo Bird had officially become a band.
Their debut album, Eye to Eye, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Callum Barter, helping the group shape a sound that blends the warmth of Americana, indie rock, folk storytelling, and the records that inspired them growing up. With new music continuing to roll out, Echo Bird is only getting started.
